About us

It all started 1972 as a working group within the company Studsvik, 100 km south of Stockholm, on the Baltic coast of Sweden. A company highly focused in advanced engineering and long-term performance of materials.

In the above picture the gentleman in the centre is the King of Sweden, visiting the site when it started its journey back in 70’s.

  • The focus for the working group was on research of methods for evaluating the long-term performance of materials.
  • Focus on district heating applications and development withing PEX technology lead the working group into development of long-term testing methods and eventually refinement of the current method for hydrostatic pressure testing.
  • Close collaboration with plastics pipe stakeholders results in the development of today’s well known evaluation method ISO 9080 – Determination of the long-term hydrostatic strength of thermoplastics materials in pipe form by extrapolation.
  • In the beginning of 1990 research studies were initiated to investigate and understand the oxidative effect of disinfected chlorinated water. The very first enquires related to chlorine resistance from Japan eventually lead to the current test method of ASTM F2023 and similar methods for several polyolefin piping materials.

Since then, the company has continued its journey with focus on long term material performance and refinement of standard test methods in accordance with various of international testing standards. Some acquisitions and organizational changes have over the time been a part of today’s Element testing lab of plastic pipes in Studsvik, Sweden.
